Review: The Truffle Hunters

It’s not often that a documentary outshines narrative feature films in cinematography, but The Truffle Hunters might be one of the most beautifully shot films to grace our screens in a long time. It definitely helps that the setting for this story is in Northern Italy - a largely rural town called Piedmont. The film is a charming glimpse into an old world tradition of truffle hunting. The truffle hunters in this case are predominantly older men who search for high-priced white truffles with their dogs.

The subject matter and the subjects of this doc are absolutely delightful. The relationships between the men and their dogs and the exploration of beautiful landscapes is reason enough to spend time in this world, but the story also acts as a time capsule of sorts, celebrating a time-honored tradition that might not exist much longer.
